Alleppey Fish (Meen) Curry Recipe

Alleppey Fish Curry is a Kerala Style spicy Fish Curry which is slightly tangy due to the use of raw mangoes or Tamarind. Here is how to make it.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 3-4 Green Chilli (Slit into half)
  • 10-12 Curry Leaves
  • 1 and ½ cup Onion (Thinly Sliced)
  • 1 tsp Ginger (Chopped)
  • 1 tsp Garlic (Chopped)
  • 1 cup Tomato (Chopped)
  • 1 Raw mango (Cut into wedges)
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 500 g Fish (Sliced)
  • 1 cup Water
  • 200 ml Coconut Milk

Instructions:

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan.
  2. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds.
  3. Fry till the seeds starts to crackle.
  4. Add green chilies and curry leaves and fry for a few seconds.
  5. Add onion, ginger and garlic and fry till onion turns translucent.
  6. Add tomatoes and cook for a minute. Add raw mango and ½ cup water and cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  7. Add salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder and cook for a minute.
  8. Add fish, a cup of water and coconut milk and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  9. Add more water if the curry is too thick.
  10. Serve hot with rice or appam.
