Papaya Halwa Recipe | Papite Ka Halwa

Papaya halwa recipe - Indian dessert made from the ripe papaya fruit. It is flavored with cardamom seeds powder and garnished with cashew nuts.

Papaya fruit is called ‘Papita’ in Hindi. Hence the in Hindi, it is papite ka halwa.

Papaya halwa recipe - Indian dessert made from the ripe papaya fruit. It is flavored with cardamom seeds powder and garnished with cashew nuts.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon + 1 tablespoon Ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 tablespoon Cashew nuts broken
  • 2 cups Papaya grated
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • ½ cup Milk
  • ¼ teaspoon Green cardamom seeds powder

Instructions:

Preparation:

  1. Take ripe papaya. Wash the papaya well.
  2. Cut into half then remove the seeds and peel it.
  3. Also cut and discard the top and bottom port (Pith/stem).
  4. Cut into large pieces and start grating them using the box grater. You can use a food processor as well.
  5. Instead of grating, you can chop them into small pieces and mash them during the cooking process.

        Making Papaya Halwa Recipe:

        1. Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in pan on medium heat.
        2. Fry the cashews till they are golden brown. Drain it and remove it to a separate bowl and keep it aside.
        3. In the remaining ghee, add grated papaya.
        4. Mix well and keep cooking till all the moisture is evaporated. It took me 10 minutes. Do stir once in a while.
        5. Now add sugar and milk. Mix well.
        6. Continue cooking with stirring occasionally. Cook till it is dry and gets halwa consistency.
        7. Now mix 1 teaspoon of ghee and turn off the stove
        8. Lastly, add fried cashews and cardamom powder.
        9. Stir well.
